Truth

Above all else, journalism is about seeking the truth. Thus, accurately and intentionally reporting the truth is a foremost thought in my work. Whether the result be positive or negative, I will report the truth in order to properly inform and educate the public.

Objectivity

The ability to remain objective is important in telling an accurate and well-sourced story. Taking a subjective view when covering a story harms a reporter's credibility, as well as the trustworthiness of their team. As a sports reporter, staying objective helps me write a better and more well-rounded story.

Diversity

Teamwork

The importance of teamwork is something that I have learned over the course of my time at the Iowa State Daily, and I have come to realize that it is critical to the success of a news desk. Reporters must work with each other to generate story ideas, provide comprehensive coverage and spark creativity. I will continue to grow as a teammate in order to help my desk produce consistent and quality content.

Diligence

One of my strengths as a reporter is my diligence and commitment to the small details. Consistently fact-checking, editing and reviewing objectivity takes time as a reporter, but I understands its value. Because of this, I will continue to dedicate myself to perfecting these components of accuracy.

Work Ethic

Ethical Code

Recognizing a wide range of views and backgrounds is important in making sure every member of my community is covered. I will remain committed to deliberately placing myself outside of my comfort zone to speak with new people and cover unfamiliar stories.

My work ethic is not only a fundamental characteristic in my career as a journalist, but it is a forefront principle in my life. I pride myself on my ability to outcompete others, and it has helped me stand out in the competitive industry of sports journalism. I will maintain this work ethic as I continue to pursue doing what I love.
