A driving force in my life has been the desire to pursue a career doing what I love. As a kid, I loved a lot of things which made it difficult to nail down a clear career path.

I focused my work ethic towards excelling in school, as I had faith that the right career path would find me one way or another. I developed a talent and love for writing that I still carry to this day, and my time in school helped me appreciate the joy of learning new things.

Approaching my final few years of high school, I began to narrow my interest of sports into a potential career in sports media. I spoke to a few professionals and got in contact with the Iowa State Daily editor-in-chief at the time as I prepared to pursue a path in journalism.

Although I wanted a spot on the sports desk coming into my freshman year, the desk was full of seniors and there wasn't a spot available for an unproven new student. Instead, I spent a year working on the diversity desk. Having to wait for my opportunity ended up being the best thing for me, as I had an opportunity to learn the nuts and bolts of journalism before working on a beat that I loved.

I got my first opportunity to work on sports in the summer going into my sophomore year, and I have been a sports reporter ever since. I've covered a variety of sports including tennis, volleyball, men's and women's basketball and football. I have had the time of my life working as a sports reporter, and I know that I found a career that I can pursue to the absolute fullest.

Throughout my time as a journalist, I've had the opportunity to learn and practice a variety of different stories, but now my work consists of previews, game coverage and features. While I love writing about sports, I learned that I love writing about interesting and meaningful stories even more.
